Canadian readers have a new set of award finalists to explore. The Canada Council for the Arts announced the 2026 Governor General’s Literary Awards shortlist on October 28, covering English- and French-language writing, translation and illustration. The awards mark their 90th anniversary this year. English-language selections include works by Miriam Toews, Kim Fu and Hannah Moscovitch, alongside poetry and books for younger readers. Finalists receive $1,000, while winning creators receive $25,000. The announcement identifies contenders, not winners: the winning books are due to be revealed November 12. The Council’s full list provides category details and the publishers behind each title.
