The conversations children hear at home are the focus of a new Welsh-language study at Aberystwyth University. Researchers Hanna Binks and Elin Royles will work with Welsh–English bilingual families whose children are aged two to four, examining how everyday choices relate to vocabulary development. The project looks beyond classroom teaching to the beliefs, routines and decisions that shape language use within families. Parents and guardians are being invited to participate. Announced October 28, the study is beginning rather than reporting completed findings. Its researchers hope the evidence will help families, educators and policymakers better understand how Welsh passes between generations.
